Philanthropy
The Tampa Bay Chapter has participated in philanthropic projects since its beginning in 1957. Bazaars were held to raise money for cardiac aid, lollipops to help “Lick Heart Disease” were sold to support heart research, and teddy bear "cough pillows" were provided for patients recovering from heart surgeries. As far back as the 1960’s the chapter has had projects to raise money for the Multiple Schlerosis Society, St. Petersburg's All Children’s Hospital, heart monitoring machines, educational problications, recuperating care publications, a cardiac suite in Tampa's St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, and other hospitals in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa. In the late 80's, Our Chapter submitted an application to Alpha Phi Foundation and an All Children’s Hospital's cardiac project was selected to receive the annual (then) $10,000 Heart to Heart Grant.
In recent years the Tampa Bay chapter has donated to various hospitals in the area. We have used the funds from selling poinsettias and pecans to directly support cardiac services in hospitals. We have also donated to Alpha Phi Foundation and participated in the Community Contribution Program, which allowed us to receive money back to donate to local hospital projects involving women’s health care and education.
Currently we continue to support local hospitals in our area with contributions toward cardiac projects and equipment, supporting collegiate chapters in cardiac projects, and support of the Foundation Heart Fund.
Tampa Bay Heart Walk

Since 2010, members of our Chapter have formed a team to participate in the annual Tampa Bay Heart Walk. Many join us in the one to three mile walk at Raymond James Stadium and others have donated in the name of our team. Each year we raise several hundred dollars for the American Heart Association and its cardiac research projects.
Fundraising

The Chapter conducts one major annual fundriasing project. The group sells poinsettias and pecans for the holidays. This sale funds our philanthropy projects as well as supporting Alpha Phi Foundation, local panhellenic scholarships, and Florida Tech Theta Zeta and FSU Gamma Phi Collegian Chapters.
Please participate in the fundraiser by purchasing your holiday poinsettias and pecans from us. The flowers are available the first week of December and the pecans arrive in November. Order from Sandy Donelan.

It was a pleasure to donate $3,150.00 to the Heart Institute of All Children's Hospital, John Hopkins Medicine. The funds will purchase fetal heart rate monitors as part of a larger program helping mothers with at risk pregnancies. The portable monitors will be loaned out to evaluate the baby's heart for signs of distress or medical need, providing greater convenience and quicker intervention if needed. Data collected from a larger population of at risk moms will enhance research shared with other Johns Hopkins locations.
